Let’s have coffee!
I love the conversations I’ve had over a cup of coffee. It seems like the simple, shared act of sipping coffee (or tea) unifies people. That’s something we could all use a little more of.
The recent surge of the new variant of the COVID virus seems to be on the minds of my friends and the people that I’ve talked to lately. I don’t choose to dive into the differences in how people see it or how they respond to it; instead what is weighing heavily on my mind is how people respond to one another.
We live in a country that is made up of people from many cultures and experiences. Of course we will have differences in thinking and beliefs. However, we have become so attached to our opinions that we feel it necessary to convince our family and friends to agree with us. I think it is important that, as we navigate this new normal and encounter new developments in COVID or any other current social issue, we embrace that our differences are OK.
I would like us to get back to a country of embracing the right to have opinions, to share opinions, and to agree to disagree when we must. I want to get back to doing all of that and still maintaining our relationships. I can still choose to love you and support you as friends and family. Those are my thoughts; I’m wondering what you think.
A friend,
Laurie Adachi
